Górka Szczęśliwicka — the complete guide

The highest point of Warsaw, a city ski slope with an October–April season, a gravity coaster and a green park in the heart of Ochota. Everything worth knowing before you visit Górka Szczęśliwicka.

The highest peak of Warsaw — 152 m above sea level

Górka Szczęśliwicka is the highest point of Warsaw — it rises to 152 m above sea level, about 40 m above the surrounding Szczęśliwicki Park. The summit offers one of the nicer panoramas of the city, with the Palace of Culture and the Wola skyline in view.

The summit is open to everyone — paths and stairs lead up from the park. It is a popular spot for walks, stair-running workouts and sunset photos.

A snowstorm at Górka Szczęśliwicka

History: a hill built from the rubble of Warsaw

The hill is not natural. It was piled up in the 1950s from the rubble of Warsaw destroyed during World War II. Between 1967 and 1970 it was covered with soil and a park was laid out around it.

In the late 1990s the site was transformed into a year-round ski centre: the hill was raised by a dozen or so metres, a chairlift was built and the slope was covered with dry ski matting. Today the facility is managed by the city (Aktywna Warszawa / CSN Szczęśliwice), and thanks to the dry surface and snowmaking the ski season runs from October to April.

The ski slope — an October-to-April season

The run is about 227 m long with an average gradient of around 19%. The dry surface plus snowmaking make the October–April season independent of the weather, and floodlights allow evening skiing. Perfect learning conditions: gentle, predictable and close to home.

Note: in the 2025/2026 season the slope is closed for a major renovation — the lifts, snowmaking and lighting are being replaced. Skiers return in the 2026/2027 season. Meanwhile you can check the site via our live camera.

Our Zone4.pl school runs ski lessons and snowboard lessons here. During the renovation, training takes place on the slope at Szwajcaria Bałtowska (including our winter day camps).

Attractions: the gravity coaster, tubing and the park

The biggest attraction is the gravity coaster — over 700 metres of downhill track with two-person cars, loved by children. It runs from spring to autumn, regardless of the slope renovation, and in summer tubing rides down the slope operate next to it.

Szczęśliwicki Park itself is the largest recreational area in this part of Warsaw: wide paths (great for roller skating — in summer our Zone4Rollin brand runs classes here), a lake, playgrounds, an outdoor gym and open-air pools in summer.

Practical information

The CSN Szczęśliwice “Górka Szczęśliwicka” centre is at ul. Drawska 22 (Ochota, 02-202 Warsaw). The centre building — renovated in 2022 — operates during the slope works: it is the base for our camps and classes.

Directions by public transport, car and bike are on a separate page: getting there. Lesson prices are in the price list.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How high is Górka Szczęśliwicka?
It rises to 152 m above sea level and is the highest point of Warsaw — about 40 m above the surrounding park. Access to the summit is free and open to everyone.
Is the ski slope open?
In the 2025/2026 season the slope is closed for renovation — the lifts, snowmaking and lighting are being replaced. Reopening is planned for the 2026/2027 season. The park operates as usual, and the gravity coaster runs in its season (spring–autumn).
Can you ski there in summer?
No — the slope operates from October to April. Thanks to the dry surface and snowmaking, in-season skiing does not depend on natural snow. In summer the gravity coaster and the park are open.
Where did the hill come from?
It is an artificial hill piled up in the 1950s from the rubble of Warsaw destroyed in World War II, later covered with soil and turned into a park with a city ski slope.
Does Zone4 teach at Górka Szczęśliwicka?
Yes — we teach skiing and snowboarding individually and in groups, and run winter and summer day camps. During the renovation, ski training takes place at the Szwajcaria Bałtowska resort while the base stays at Szczęśliwice.
