Beskid Sport Arena — ski resort in Szczyrk

Beskid Sport Arena is a ski station in the Biała valley in Szczyrk, on ul. Grzybowa, a few minutes’ drive from the town centre and about 20 minutes from Bielsko-Biała. It opened for the 2016/2017 season and was designed from the start as a single compact unit: one lift feeding every run, a base station holding all the facilities, and terrain you can take in from the car park.

The scale is modest — 3.2 km of runs on four pistes between 600 and 840 m — but the infrastructure is among the newest in the Beskids. The main lift is the six-seater detachable “Beskid” chairlift, 750 m long, rated at 2200 people per hour and fitted with wind shields. Two platter lifts complete the set: “Sportowy” alongside the slalom run and “Widokowy” on the upper clearing.

What sets the resort apart is its lighting and snowmaking. Every run carries LED lighting, including the 50 m tunnel that takes run 1 underneath run 3. Snow comes from an automated Supersnow system — several dozen guns and lances fed from two reservoirs holding around 11,000 m³ in total — and the pistes are groomed by three PistenBully machines. The resort belongs to PBC and takes part in the Szczyrk joint ski pass alongside COS Szczyrk and Szczyrk Mountain Resort.

For 3.2 km the terrain is surprisingly varied. Beginners and children stay on the upper clearing at run 4 — flat, wide, around 15% gradient and served by a short platter lift — where the ski kindergarten and an indoor play room operate. The next step is run 1: 1200 m, average gradient around 20%, the longest descent here and the only one through the tunnel. Intermediates ride the red run 2 (1000 m, gradients up to 38%), and confident skiers take the black run 3, an 800 m slalom piste reaching 45%, where the resort holds training sessions and races. Advanced skiers will be limited by the length of the descent rather than its difficulty.

The address is ul. Grzybowa 1, 43-370 Szczyrk. From Warsaw it is about 365 km, roughly 4.5 hours: the A1 to Gliwice, then the S1 via Tychy to Bielsko-Biała, then road 942 towards Szczyrk. From Katowice it is about an hour, from Kraków about 1.5 hours and from Bielsko-Biała about 25 minutes.

The resort has five free car parks holding roughly 400 cars and 5 coaches in total — a rarity in Szczyrk, where parking nearer the centre is paid and hard to find at peak times. Buses run to Szczyrk from Bielsko-Biała; the nearest railway station is Bielsko-Biała Główna, about 15 km away.

The season normally starts around the turn of December and January and ends in the first half of March — the 2025/2026 season closed on 8 March. The runs sit low (600–840 m), so snowmaking determines how long the season lasts: with favourable night temperatures the extensive system opens the slope earlier than snowfall alone would allow. Every run is floodlit, so evening skiing is standard here rather than an extra — and evenings and weekdays are when the lift queue is shortest.

Szczyrk is the largest ski destination in the Silesian Beskids: besides Beskid Sport Arena there are Szczyrk Mountain Resort on Skrzyczne and Hala Skrzyczeńska, and the ski jumping complex of the Central Sports Centre. All three are covered by the Szczyrk joint ski pass. Away from the downhill runs, a short public cross-country trail has been laid out in the upper part of the town, and the Sanctuary of Our Lady Queen of Poland stands on the hill above Szczyrk. Nearby Bielsko-Biała offers the Szyndzielnia gondola and the Wapienica valley.

Zone4 is a ski and snowboard school from Warsaw building ZoneCloud — a booking system for lessons with instructors. We do not own any slope: what we add is the thing slopes usually lack, namely a free slot with a named instructor, visible online and bookable on the spot. Today it runs at Górka Szczęśliwicka in Warsaw, at Rybno and at Szwajcaria Bałtowska.
