Koszałkowo-Wieżyca — ski resort in Kashubia

The largest ski centre in northern Poland: three runs of up to 300 m with 45 m of vertical, full snowmaking and floodlighting, about an hour by car from the Tricity and right inside the Kashubian Landscape Park.

Koszałkowo-Wieżyca — runs, lifts and facilities

Koszałkowo sits in the village of Wieżyca, Stężyca commune, in the heart of the Kashubian Landscape Park and at the foot of Wieżyca — a hill of 328.6 m that is the highest point in all of northern Poland. The centre has been running for more than forty years and remains the largest ski station in Pomerania, though on a national scale it stays small: the longest descent measures 300 metres.

The runs are spread across several neighbouring slopes. The two main pistes served by platter lifts A and B are each about 300 m long with 45 m of vertical; the third, on lift C, is roughly 260 m with 40 m of vertical. Beside them stands a smaller hill with snowtubing lanes and a separate children’s area, so a family with mixed abilities can split up without leaving the grounds.

For the Tricity and the whole of Pomerania, Koszałkowo plays the role a suburban training hill plays elsewhere: it is where people learn to ski and keep their form between trips to the Alps or the Tatras. The resort runs a ski and snowboard school with a ski kindergarten, a rental shop and a workshop, and has catering, accommodation and a camper park on site.

  • three downhill runs: two of about 300 m with 45 m of vertical and one of about 260 m with 40 m,
  • eight lifts — platter lifts on the main slope, a beginners’ lift and magic carpets,
  • artificial snowmaking, grooming and floodlighting on all slopes, evening skiing included,
  • a separate hill with snowtubing lanes and a fenced play zone for small children,
  • a licensed ski and snowboard school with a ski kindergarten,
  • equipment rental and servicing, catering, accommodation and a camper park on site,
  • paramedics on duty on the slope,
  • online webcams showing the current snow cover before you set off.

Who the slope suits

Koszałkowo is a hill for beginners, children and families, and it should be planned as such. With 45 metres of vertical a descent lasts under a minute, so the value lies in repetition: a two-hour lesson can easily fit a dozen or more runs, something no long mountain piste will give you. Learning starts on the magic carpet and the beginners’ slope, then moves to platter lifts A and B, where the gradient is enough to practise parallel turns and first carved arcs. Confident skiers will treat the centre as somewhere to drill technique and get their legs back before a mountain trip rather than as a weekend destination in itself.

Getting there

The address is Wieżyca 32, 83-315 Szymbark, on national road 20 between Żukowo and Kościerzyna. From Gdańsk it is about 45 km, roughly an hour; from Gdynia about 55 km; from Bydgoszcz about 135 km. From Warsaw it is about 350 km and around 4 hours — the S7 towards Gdańsk, then turning off for Kościerzyna before the conurbation.

A railway stop called Wieżyca sits right by the resort on the Gdynia–Kościerzyna line and has long been popular with car-free skiers. Note, however, that the line has been closed for modernisation since mid-2025 and passengers are carried by replacement buses through Szymbark and Wieżyca — check the current timetable before travelling by rail. Car parks are located at the base of the lifts.

Season and slope conditions

Winter in Kashubia is maritime and mild, so the season at Koszałkowo rests on technical snowmaking and a run of several frosty days. In practice that means a window from January into February, occasionally earlier or longer — in late January 2026 the slope held about 20 cm of snow with six of the eight lifts turning, which is a good and fairly typical scenario here. The resort opens its runs in stages, starting with the main slope, and streams webcams online so the snow cover can be checked without a phone call. Floodlighting allows skiing after dark, and because the Tricity is so close, afternoons and weekends are the busiest slots.

What else is nearby

A few minutes from the slope stands the observation tower on the summit of Wieżyca, with a panorama over Kashubian Switzerland. Szymbark has the regional education centre known for its upside-down house and the world’s longest plank, and Lake Ostrzyckie is a good target for a winter walk. Kartuzy, with its former Carthusian collegiate church, is a quarter of an hour away; Gdańsk is under an hour.

Ski lessons and booking an instructor

Zone4 is a ski and snowboard school from Warsaw building ZoneCloud — a booking system for lessons with instructors. We do not own any slope: what we add is the thing slopes usually lack, namely a free slot with a named instructor, visible online and bookable on the spot. Today it runs at Górka Szczęśliwicka in Warsaw, at Rybno and at Szwajcaria Bałtowska.

The next step is a nationwide network — including Koszałkowo-Wieżyca. We are building the instructor team here and will open lesson booking together with it. If you are looking for an instructor in Koszałkowo-Wieżyca for the coming season, leave your details and we will let you know the moment bookings open. If you teach here yourself, read the section below.

Jobs: ski instructor — Koszałkowo-Wieżyca

We are looking for ski and snowboard instructors in Szymbark and the surrounding area (pomorskie Province). The arrangement is freelance and non-exclusive — you can teach with us alongside your own clients or a local ski school. You set your availability in the schedule; we bring the students and handle bookings and settlements.

ZoneCloud gives an instructor what working solo does not: a public profile with a description and photo, a calendar of free slots, online bookings and payments, and a lesson history in one place. Instead of fielding calls on a Saturday morning, you get a filled schedule.

Instructor qualifications (SITN-PZN or equivalent) are a strong plus but not an entry barrier — what counts is confident, technical riding and the ability to work with people, especially children. You attach scans and a CV in the online application.

Become a ZoneCloud instructor

The online application takes about 5 minutes and creates your provisional instructor account.
